Final Results

KYLE –The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team finished in 13^th place at the Texas State Invitational on Tuesday at Plum Creek Golf Course, in its first tournament of the season. 
 
The Vaqueros finished with a three-round score of 924 after finishing its second round with a score of 306 and then posting a final round 315. UTRGV finished just four strokes behind Corpus Christi for 12^th. 
 
Freshman Mercedes Vega led the way for UTRGV as she finished in 44^th place with a three-round score of 229. Vega posted a second round 74 before wrapping up her first-collegiate tournament with a final round 76. 
 
Redshirt freshman Sophia Tejeda finished tied for 48^th with a three-round score of 231 as she posted a second round 74 before recording a final round 85. Redshirt sophomore Julie Lucio came in tied for 50^th after posting a second round 76 and a final round 80 for a three-round score of 232. 
 
Redshirt freshman Samantha Garza finished tied for 57^th with a three-round score of 234 as she posted a second round 82 before shaving off seven strokes in the final round with a 75. Redshirt senior Rachel Yu finished tied for 76^th with a three-round score of 244 after a second round 82 and a final round 84. 
 
Tulsa took home the team title with a three-round 859 while Sam Houston's Hanna Alberto took home the individual title with a three-round 201.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action from Feb. 22-23 at the Islander Classic in Corpus Christi, as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union.
