CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team dropped a neutral site match to the Sam Houston Bearkats 1-6 on Monday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Vaqueros (2-9) won their doubles match at the No. 2 spot as the team of redshirt sophomore
Katarina Sasaroga and freshman
Isabelle Bahr defeated Constandena Nicolaou and Andrijana 6-3.
The Bearkats (9-2) took the doubles point as they answered with wins at the No. 1 and 3 spots.
In singles, the Vaqueros got a win at the No. 6 spot as freshman
Lea Karren picked up a three-set win over Petra Kaszas. Karren fell 4-6 in the first set but then bounced back with a 6-4 to force a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Karren cruised to a 10-4 win to give the Vaqueros their lone point of the match.
The Bearkats won the other five singles matches to clinch the win.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on March 19 when it kicks off Western Athletic Conference play against New Mexico State in St. George, Utah.
