LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 6-1 victory over the Dixie State Trailblazers on Saturday at the NMSU Tennis Courts.

With the win, the Vaqueros clinched the No. 3 seed in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament and will face No. 2 New Mexico State in the semifinals on May 1  in Las Cruces, New Mexico. 
 
The Vaqueros (5-16, 3-3 WAC) once again opened up play by taking the early advantage after doubles play. The duo of freshman Isabelle Bahr and redshirt sophomore Katarina Sasaroga kicked off doubles with a 6-4 win over Kyra Harames and Sabrina Longson at the No. 1 spot. 
 
Redshirt sophomores Ana Platisa and Sandra Putz then clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Alexandra Hildreth and Ya-Chi Hsu at the No. 3 spot giving the Vaqueros the 1-0 lead.
 
In singles, Bahr gave UTRGV the 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Harames at the No. 1 spot. Redshirt freshman Kristyna Mamicova extended the Vaqueros lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Rachel Mellor at the No. 4 spot. 
 
Platisa then clinched the win for UTRGV with a 7-2, 7-6 over Emma Templeton at the No. 5 spot for its second-straight win. 
 
The Trailblazers (5-15, 2-4 WAC) got their lone point at the No. 2 singles spot. 
 
Karren added to the Vaqueros lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Longson at the No. 3 spot to make it 5-1. 
 
Putz then closed out the scoring with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Juliana Honczaruk at the No. 6 spot.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, which starts April 30 at the NMSU Tennis Courts in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
