RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team fell 2-5 to the Tarleton State Texans on Saturday to close out the Western Athletic Conference cluster at the Orville Cox Tennis Center. 
 
The Texans (8-9, 3-1 WAC) took the early 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches but the Vaqueros (3-14, 1-4 WAC) battled as two of their matches went to seven points. 
 
Freshman Isabelle Bahr and redshirt sophomore Katarina Sasaroga were down 3-4 to Martha Makantasi and Jemi Aguilar but battled to tie the match at 5-5 before falling 5-7. Freshman Lea Karren and redshirt freshman Valeria Montero went to a tiebreaker against Mihaela Codreanu and Faustine Palette before falling 6-7. 
 
In singles, redshirt freshman Kristyna Mamicova got the Vaqueros on the board with a three-set victory over Elsa Boisson at the No. 4 spot. Mamicova fell in the opening set 1-6 but bounced back with a 6-4 win in the second and a 6-3 win in the third to get the point. 
 
The Texans won on the other four courts to clinch the win. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Sunday at 10 a.m. when they host Prairie View A&M at the Orville Cox Tennis Center.
