Misha Kvantaliani won the Flight A Doubles Championship to lead The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's tennis team in the final day of the Contender CrossFit Islander Open on Saturday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
A day after battling back from an 0-5 deficit by winning eight-straight games, Izurieta and Kvantaliani defeated Tyler Junior College's Alvaro Saint Martin and Jakob Mosvold 6-2 to take home the championship.
Freshman
Chris Lawrance made his UTRGV debut on Saturday and picked up his first win of the fall. After dropping the first set 6-7 to Tyler Junior College's Peter Blair, Lawrance battle back with a 7-5 win in the third before dominating the tiebreaker 10-2.
The Vaqueros will be back in action September 24-26 when they compete at the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio.
