STEPHENVILLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team was defeated 0-7 by the Tarleton State Texas on Sunday at the Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts. 
 
Tarleton (7-2) claimed the 1-0 advantage with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts. The Vaqueros' No. 1 duo of sophomores Isabelle Bahr and Lea Karren notched a 6-4 win after the point had been secured. 
 
The Texans clinched the match with singles wins at No. 5, No. 3 and No. 1 en route to sweeping the singles action. 
 
UTRGV (5-3) freshman Marjorie Souza moved up to the No. 2 spot in the singles lineup and battled well. She fought for a 7-5 win in set one, then dropped the second. With the match victory decided, the third set was a 10-point tiebreaker. Tarleton's Jemileth Aguilar walked away with the 10-6 win. 
 
The Vaqueros went 2-1 on the weekend. They return to play at home at the Orville I. Cox Tennis Center on Feb. 26-27 against Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
