PHOENIX – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is tied for 13^th after the first round of the GCU Invitational on Monday at the GCU Golf Course as the second round was suspended due to darkness. 
 
The second round will be completed on Tuesday morning with the final round to be played after the completion of the second round. 
 
The Vaqueros posted a first round 292 and is tied with North Dakota for 13^th while being just two shots back of Valparaiso for 12^th.
 
Sophomore Taj Sutherland led the way for the Vaqueros with a first round one-under par 70. Sutherland is tied for 15^th and is just four shots behind the lead held by UT Arlington's Kyle Cox and Grand Canyon's Matthew Braley who each posted a five under 66. 
 
Freshman Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque is tied for 27^th after a first round even par 71. Sophomore Leonardo Novella is tied for 82^nd after a first round 75 while senior Tennoshin Ogawa is tied for 94^th with a first round 76. 
 
Sophomore Sebastian Lundberg is tied for 108^th after a first round 79. 
 
Southern Mississippi holds the first round lead with a 278 while GCU and UT Arlington are a shot behind in second place.
