FORT WORTH – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's women's tennis sophomore Marjorie Souza and junior Isabelle Bahr both went 1-1 in singles action and teamed up for a doubles victory on the first day of competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships at TCU's Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. 
 
Souza clinched a come-from-behind victory in her first match of the Qualifying Draw, defeating Texas Tech's Camryn Stepp 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-4). Bahr had to battle the No. 1 seed, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Naomi McKenzie, in her first match. Bahr gave McKenzie all she could handle, but she fell 6-7 (4-7), 5-7. 
 
Souza's win advanced her to the Main Stage of the qualifying draw, where she faced Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Palina Saulevich, the No. 6 seed. Souza won the first set 6-1 but dropped the tough match as Saulevich came back to take the second and third 4-6, 0-1 (9-11). Bahr moved to the Consolation Stage of the qualifying draw and cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Prairie View A&M's Aleyla Wooten. 
 
The Vaqueros capped their day with a convincing 8-1 victory over Lamar's Jayci Wong/Anna Emma Shasteen in the opening round of doubles competition. 
 
The tournament continues Friday at TCU. Souza/Bahr will take on Rice's Federica Trevisan/Saara Orav in the Doubles Main Stage Round of 32 at 4 p.m.
