SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men's tennis team finished the Roadrunner Invitational with three singles victories on Sunday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
Junior
Emilien Burnel opened his UTRGV career with a stellar weekend, going 3-0 to win the Singles D Draw. He defeated UTSA's Garrett Skelly 7-5, 6-2 on Sunday in the D Draw East Final. Burnel tallied five wins in six matches to start the fall season after going 2-1 in doubles with sophomore
Sam Whitehead.

Agustin Salazar also went 3-0 in singles to win the H Draw and start his Vaqueros career on a high note. He faced senior teammate
Chris Lawrance in the H Draw East Final on Sunday, taking the first set 6-2 and getting the victory after Lawrance retired. Salazar picked up one doubles win at the tournament, and Lawrance finished 2-1 in singles.
Sophomore
Karlo Krolo beat Abilene Christian's Mihaly Deli 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 on Sunday in the E Draw West Final. He went 2-1 in singles and 1-2 in doubles with sophomore
Borna Devald through the tournament.
Devald dropped the A Draw West Final 6-4, 6-3 to Rice's Emir Sendogan and finished 0-2 in singles matches. Senior
Te Kani Williams and Whitehead did not play their G Draw West Final match on Sunday. Williams and Whitehead both went 1-1 in singles, and Williams/Lawrance were 1-1 in doubles.
UTRGV's next fall tournament is the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships at Baylor from Oct. 13-17.
