LAFAYETTE, La. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) volleyball team learned on Saturday that senior outside hitter Sarah Cruz is the Most Valuable Player of the 2022 Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic and is joined on the All-Tournament team by sophomore setter Luanna Emiliano and junior libero Regina Tijerina after leading UTRGV to a 3-0 record and the tournament championship.
 
UTRGV won nine of its 10 sets, sweeping UTSA on Friday and North Dakota State on Saturday while beating host Louisiana 3-1 on Friday.
 
Cruz averaged 5.60 kills on .310 hitting, 1.70 digs, 0.40 blocks and 0.20 aces in 10 sets. Cruz opened the tournament with 21 kills on .341 hitting, three digs, two aces and one block against UTSA. She recorded 21 more kills on .264 hitting with nine digs and three blocks against Louisiana. Cruz closed out the tournament with 14 kills on .345 hitting and five digs against North Dakota State.
 
Emiliano averaged 10.80 assists, 3.40 digs, 0.60 blocks and 0.30 kills in 10 sets. Emiliano opened the tournament with 33 assists, 10 digs, two blocks, one ace and one kill against UTSA. She then dished out 38 assists with 15 digs, one block and one kill against Louisiana. Emiliano closed out the tournament with 37 assists, nine digs, three blocks and one kill against North Dakota State.
 
Tijerina averaged 4.70 digs and 0.90 assists in 10 sets. Tijerina opened the tournament with 15 digs, four assists and one ace against UTSA. She then recorded 27 digs and two assists against Louisiana. Tijerina closed out the tournament with five digs and three assists against North Dakota State.
 
UTRGV is back in action on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as part of the South Texas Showdown, presented by Navy Army Community Credit Union, on ESPN+.
