RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that freshman
Symoria Adkins, of the women's track & field team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Adkins had two entries into the record book last week as the Vaqueros competed at the Texas Tech Open.
Adkins set a new program record in the 60-meter hurdles after she crossed the finish line with a time of 8.64 seconds as she finished in 12
th place in the first round.
On Saturday, Adkins finished 38
th in the women's 200-meter dash, which had over 100 competitors, with a time of 24.96 seconds. Adkins' performance is the ninth fastest in program history.
Adkins performance in the 60-meter hurdles currently ranks seventh fastest in the Western Athletic Conference while her performance in the 200-meter dash ranks 12
th.
The Vaqueros will be back in action Feb. 10-11 at the Jarvis Scott Open, hosted by Texas Tech.
