RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday plans to broadcast one men's basketball, one women's basketball, and two baseball games in Spanish on Vallevisión Channel 8 (XHAB), a Televisa television station that transmits from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico and can also be seen in the Rio Grande Valley.
 
Additionally, fans can tune in for a new pregame show hosted by Oliver Cruz starting 30 minutes before each telecast.
 
The games set to air on Vallevisión are:
Wednesday, December 20 – Women's Basketball vs. No. 5 Texas, 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, January 20 – Men's Basketball vs. Tarleton State, 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 23 – Baseball vs. Grand Canyon, 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, April 13 – Baseball vs. Utah Valley, 6:30 p.m.
 
This is the second year in a row in which UTRGV Athletics is broadcasting games on Vallevisión after doing so twice during the 2023 baseball season.
 
Hector Zapata and Luis Rubio return for their second season broadcasting UTRGV Athletics events on Vallevisión. Zapata is a former Telemundo sports anchor in the Valley and Houston and video content specialist at UTRGV and is currently a digital media teacher at IDEA Owassa College Prep. Rubio previously broadcast select soccer games in Spanish for Vaquero Radio as a student while also broadcasting baseball, basketball, volleyball, and soccer in English both for Vaquero Radio and as a fill-in on UTRGV Athletics' ESPN+ broadcasts. Rubio currently teaches social studies at Edinburg Economedes High School.
