RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team announced on Thursday that they will open their spring season at the Texas State Invitational from February 5-6 at Landa Park Golf Club.
The Texas State Invitational is the first of four tournaments that UTRGV will compete in this spring leading to the Western Athletic Conference Championship that will be held from April 19-21 at The Golf Club at Chapparal Pines in Payson, Arizona.
"It's a great spring schedule," UTRGV head coach
Bryan Novoa said. "We have our South Texas swing as we open at Texas State, then I would like to return the favor to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at their tournament, and then we host at McAllen Country Club. I love McAllen Country Club and how our game is set up for the golf course. Those three events are going to signature for the spring."
UTRGV will follow the Texas State Invitational with the Islander Classic, hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, from February 20-21 at Corpus Christi Country Club.
UTRGV will then host the Vaquero Invitational from March 4-5 at the McAllen Country Club, marking the ninth straight year hosting an invitational.
The Vaqueros will then tee it up at the Bobcat Desert Classic from Apr. 8-10 at The Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona to close out the regular season.
"Leading into conference, we will play at the Bobcat Desert Classic," Novoa said. "We hope this will resemble our conference championship with the WAC. I think we have the right plan on paper, and we will go and execute that plan and see how it goes."
This season, the NCAA Regional Championships will be held from May 6-8 at regional sites while the NCAA Championship will run from May 17-22 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
