RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that senior
Julie Lucio, of the women's golf team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Lucio, a Brownsville Veterans alum, finished tied for first at the UTRGV Invitational helping lead the Vaqueros to a second place finish. It was the team's third top-three finish to start the spring season and second-straight second place finish.
Lucio set a program record for an individual three-round score of 210 to finish tied with Houston Christian's Elise Parel. Lucio opened with an even par 71 before posting a one-under par 70 in the second round. Lucio then tied her single round career-best with a two-under 69 in the final round to force a playoff.
Lucio was part of the record setting performance for UTRGV as they set a program record with a three-round team score of 877.
The Vaqueros are back in action today as they compete at the HCU Husky Invitational in Sugar Land.
