SUGAR LAND – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team finished in 11
thplace at the HCU Husky Invitational on Tuesday at Riverbend Country Club.
The Vaqueros finished with a three-round score of 940 after posting a final round 915. UTRGV finished just one stroke back of Texas A&M-Commerce for 10
th and four shots back of Lamar for ninth.
Junior
Samantha Garza led the Vaqueros with a final round 76 as she finished tied for 30
th with a three-round score of 232. Freshman
Jackie Howard Gonzalez finished tied for 33
rd with a three-round score of 233 after turning in a final round 77.

Mercedes Vega finished tied for 45
th with three-round scores of 238. Lucio posted a final round 78 while Vega turned in an 84. Junior
Sophia Tejeda finished in 75
th with a three-round score of 250 after a final round 89.
Sam Houston went on to win the team title with a three-round score of 880 after posting a final round 288. Houston Christian's Elise Parel held on to win the individual title with a three-round score of 216 after carding a final round 72.
The Vaqueros will be in action from April 10-11 at the ORU Spring Invite at Indian Springs Country Club in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
