Women's Golf Set to Host 2023 UTRGV Invitational on Monday at McAllen Country Club

MCALLEN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team is set to welcome in 13 other schools when they host the 2023 UTRGV Invitational starting on Monday at McAllen Country Club.

Tournament Format

The first two rounds will be played on Monday with teams teeing off at 8:15 a.m.
The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m.

McAllen Country Club plays 5,951 yards.
The par for the course is 71.

UTRGV finished in second place at the Islander Classic marking their second straight top-3 finish.
UTRGV posted a three-round score of 932 with rounds of 303, 314, and 315.
Sophia Tejeda, Julie Lucio, and Samantha Garza paced UTRGV as they all tied for 10^th place with three-round scores of 236.
Tejeda posted rounds of 81, 76, and 79, Lucio posted rounds of 75, 80, and 81, and Garza carded rounds of 78, 80, and 78.
Maria Jose Ramirez finished tied for 13^th with a three-round score 237 with rounds of 75, 78, and 84.
Mercedes Vega finished tied for 21^st with a three-round score of 239 after posting rounds of 75, 87, and 77.

Last Time at UTRGV Invitational

UTRGV's A team finished in seventh place in last year's UTRGV Invitational while their B team finished in 16^th.
The A team, that consisted of Samantha Garza, Sophia Tejeda, Mercedes Vega, Maria Jose Ramirez, and Madi Ozuna, posted a three-round score of 933 with rounds of 306, 322, and 305.
The B team, that consisted of Rachel Yu, Mason Rawls, Blayke Van Houten, and Catherine Flores, finished with a three-round score of 1103 with rounds of 369, 367, and 367.
Samantha Garza led the way as she finished tied for third place with a three-round score of 226. She carded rounds of 79, 76, and 71.
Sophia Tejeda finished tied for 21^st with a three-round score of 233 after rounds of 72, 85, and 76.
Mercedes Vega finished tied for 29^th with a three-round score of 237 after rounds of 75, 82, and 80.
Maria Jose Ramirez tied for 38^th with a three-round score of 239 with rounds of 80, 79, and 80.
Madi Ozuna finished tied for 58^th with a three-round score of 247 with rounds of 83, 86, and 78.
Catherine Flores finished in 77^th with a three-round score of 293 after rounds of 95, 103, and 95.
Houston Christian and Corpus Christi tied for first in the team standings with three-round scores of 920 with Houston Christian taking the trophy in the playoff.
Utah Valley's Leighton Shosted won the individual title with a three-round score of 224.

South Texas Showdown, Presented by Rally Credit Union

UTRGV currently leads in the Showdown standings 23-22
The team that finishes ahead in the standings will receive three points for their team.
The next Showdown event will be a baseball game on March 14 in Edinburg.
UTRGV took three points from the Islanders with their second place finish at the Islander Classic last month.
