BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team climbed two spots in the standings to finish in ninth place at the ORU Spring Invite on Tuesday at The Club at Indian Springs. 
 
The Vaqueros, who sat in 11^th after the first day, moved two spots in the standings after posting a final round 297, which was a 10-stroke improvement. The Vaqueros finished with a three-round score of 922 and finish just two shots back of Stephen F. Austin for eighth and six shots back of Texas A&M-Commerce for seventh. 
 
Senior and Brownsville Veterans alum Julie Lucio posted a final round two-under par 70 to finish in 15^th place with a three-round score of 222. Lucio recorded five birdies, three bogeys, and 10 pars in the final round. 
 
Junior Sophia Tejeda finished tied for 35^th with a three-round score of 231 after turning in a final round 78. Sophomore Maria Jose Ramirez finished tied for 43^rd with three-round score of 235 after posting a final round 79. 
 
Junior Samantha Garza finished in 50^th as she improved by 12 strokes in the final round with a one-under par 71 for a three-round total of 237. Junior Mercedes Vega finished in 75^th after carding a final round 78.
 
Sam Houston finished in first place in the team standings with a three-round score of 857 after posting a final round 281. Sam Houston's Leah Alberto won the individual medalist with a three-round score of 211 after posting the day's best round of five-under 67.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action from April 23-25 when they tee it up at the WAC Championships at Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club in Blaine, Washington.
