Women's Golf Ready to Tee It Up at WAC Championship

BLAINE, Wash. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team is set to compete at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship starting on Sunday at Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club. 
 
Tournament Format
  • The WAC Tournament will be spread out over three days with one round of 18 holes being played each day. 
  • The first group will tee off at 10 a.m.
 
Golf Course Info
  • The Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club plays 6,203 yards.
  • The par for the course is 72.

Last Time Out
  • UTRGV finished in ninth place at the ORU Spring Invite to close out their spring regular season schedule. 
  • UTRGV posted a three-round score of 922 with rounds of 318, 307, and 297. 
  • Julie Lucio finished in 15th place with a three-round score of 222 after posting rounds of 76, 76, and 70. 
  • Sophia Tejeda finished tied for 35th with a three-round score of 231 after turning in rounds of 79, 74, and 78. 
  • Maria Jose Ramirez finished tied for 43rd with a three-round score of 235 with rounds of 82, 74, and 79. 
  • Samantha Garza finished tied for 50th with a three-round score of 237 after rounds of 83, 83, and 71. 
  • Mercedes Vega finished in 75th after posting rounds of 81 and 78 while withdrawing in the second round.
 
Last Time at WAC Championship
  • UTRGV finished in fifth place at last year's WAC Championship with a three-round score of 938 with rounds of 306, 321, and 311. 
  • Julie Lucio finished in 15th with a three-round score of 229 after carding rounds of 74, 77, and 78. 
  • Sophia Tejeda finished tied for 26th with a three-round score of 235 after posting rounds of 77, 82, and 76. 
  • Maria Jose Ramirez finished in 36th with a three-round score of 239 with rounds of 77, 82, and 80. 
  • Mercedes Vega finished tied for 37th with a three-round score of 240 with rounds of 83, 80, and 77. 
  • Samantha Garza finished in 40th with a three-round score of 242 after turning in rounds of 78, 82, and. 82. 
  • New Mexico State won the team title with a three-round score of 898 with rounds of 296, 301, and 301. 
  • Grand Canyon's Siripatsorn Patchana won the individual championship with a three-round score of 213 after three-straight rounds of 71.  
 
Looking Back Through the Spring
  • UTRGV has arguably put together one of their best seasons spring seasons having posted three top-three finishes. 
  • UTRGV tied for third at the Texas State Invitational, finished second at the Islander Classic, and finished second at the UTRGV Invitational. 
  • The Vaqueros set a program record for three-round team score at the UTRGV Invitational as they posted a team score of 877 with rounds of 290, 289, and 298. It is only the second time in program history that the team posts a team score below 900. 
  • Julie Lucio also set a program record for individual three-round score with a 210 at the UTRGV Invitational as she posted rounds of 71, 70, and 69. 
  • The Vaqueros finished the spring a team average score of 304.8.
  • All the six traveling to the WAC Tournament have posted a stroke average below 78 this spring. 
  • Julie Lucio leads the Vaqueros with a 75.7 stroke average this spring.
