BLAINE, Wash. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team remains in ninth place after the second day of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship on Monday at Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club.
The Vaqueros posted a second round 312 for a two-round total of 625 as they sit six shots back of Utah Valley for eighth place. Sam Houston still holds the team lead after posting a second round 292 for a total of 585.
Junior
Mercedes Vega paced the Vaqueros on Monday as she improved by six strokes with a second round one-over par 73. Vega has a two-round total of 152 and is nine shots back of Southern Utah's Tsara Ralamboarison, who holds the individual lead with a two-round total of 143.
Junior
Samantha Garza is tied for 35
th with a two-round total of 155 after posting a second round 75. Senior and Brownsville Veterans alum
Julie Lucio is in 45
th with a two-round total of 159 after carding a second round. 83.
Sophomore
Maria Jose Ramirez is tied for 46
th with a two-round total of 160 after posting a second round 79 and junior
Sophia Tejeda is tied for 50
th with a two-round total of 162 after her second straight round of 81.
The Vaqueros will be back on the course on Tuesday for the final round of the WAC Championship with their first group teeing off at 10:20 a.m.
