BLAINE, Wash. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team finished in ninth place at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship on Tuesday at Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club. 
 
The Vaqueros posted their best round of the tournament with a final round 308 to finish with a three-round score of 933. UTRGV finished four strokes behind Utah Valley for ninth and 10 strokes behind Utah Tech for eighth. 
 
Junior Mercedes Vega led the Vaqueros as she finished tied for 19^th with a three-round score of 229 after posting a final round 77. Senior and Brownsville Veterans alum Julie Lucio and junior Samantha Garza both finished tied for 38^th with three-round scores of 235. Lucio posted a final round 76 while Garza carded a final round 79. 
 
Junior Sophia Tejeda finished tied for 46^th with a three-round score of 238 after posting a final round of 76. Freshman Jackie Howard Gonzalez subbed in for sophomore Maria Jose Ramirez in the final round and posted a round of 79.
 
Sam Houston won the team championship with a three-round score of 883 after posting a final round 298. There was a four-way tie for the individual championship between Southern Utah's Tsara Ralamboarison, Seattle U's Aaryanna Morris, Sam Houston's Jennifer Herbst, and Califoria Baptist's Hailey Loh with CBU's Loh winning in the playoff.
