RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros head volleyball coach
Todd Lowery announced on Monday the addition of 5-11 outside hitter
Giovana Ribeiro for the 2023 season.

Ribeiro comes to UTRGV from São Paulo, Brazil, where she was a standout for national and club teams. She was a call-up for the Under-18 São Paulo team in 2021 and 2022, competing in the champion silver series in 2022 and capturing a runner-up finish in the highly competitive volleyball tournament, Taça Paraná, in 2022.

In 2020, Ribeiro participated in the Brazilian national team laboratory. She helped her teams find success in some of the top competitions in Brazil, winning first place in the U-15 Paulista State championship in 2019, third place in the U-16 Brazilian national team championship in 2019 and fourth place in the Brazilian national team championship in 2020. She also took a third-place finish in the U-16 Youth School Games for Colégio Amorim in 2019.

The right-handed Brazilian most recently played for Pinheiros U-19.

"Giovana is a talented six-rotation player. We are really excited to be adding her to our roster," Lowery said. "She has played at an elite level. She is going to give us stability in our passing while adding another offensive threat to the line-up."
