TARRAGONA, SPAIN – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's (UTRGV) Uxia Pereira is set to compete in the XXXVIII Campeonato de España Sub23 de Pista al Aire Libre, the Spanish Under-23 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, July 1-2 in Tarragona, Spain. 
 
Pereira will be competing in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Thirty-two athletes who notched a qualifying time of 15.00 or better in the event were accepted to the event, which will feature three rounds of competition. 
 
Four qualifying heats will run Saturday at 5:15 a.m. (CT), with the top three finishers in each race automatically advancing to the next round, plus the four fastest times. Starting at 4:15 a.m. (CT) Sunday, the remaining runners will compete in two semifinal heats with the top three finishers in each advancing to the final plus the two best times. The final is slated for Sunday at 6:05 a.m. (CT). 
 
Pereira heads to the meet as one of the twelve fastest qualifiers with a wind-legal personal record of 14.10, which she ran this outdoor season at the Cactus Cup. She clocked in at 13.96 (3.0) at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Outdoor Championships in May. She'll need to run 13.90 or better and place in the top three to advance to represent Spain at the European Athletics U23 Championships in mid-July.
