CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team had two sophomores, Yaiza Vazquez and Valentina Urraco, win their respective singles draws during the final day of the Jake Frederick Memorial Islander Open Sunday in Corpus.  
 
Vazquez won the Singles Flight D with a 3-0 record. She defeated Milou Ter Morsche from Texas A&M-Kingsville, 6-1, 6-3, in the final. Urraco went 3-0 in the round-robin Flight X, taking down Lamar's Jayci Wong 6-2, 6-4 on Sunday. 
 
Juniors Marjorie Souza and Kristal Dule were competitive in the Flight B and Flight E finals, respectively, but both dropped tough three-set matches. 
 
UTRGV's next fall tournament will be the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Texas Regional Oct. 12-15 in Waco.
