Men's Basketball Alumni in the Pros Update

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – There are at least 10 players who previously played for The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team that currently play or will play professional basketball in 2023-24. Here is an update on how some of them are doing, courtesy of Eurobasket:
 
Former UTRGV players that are currently playing professional basketball:
 
Perry Petty (2010-11) scored 27 points with six rebounds, three assists, and three steals in Mahram's 79-76 loss to Tabiat. Petty is averaging 22.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.4 steals in 7 games. Mahram is currently in fourth place with a 9-5 record. Petty signed with Mahram Tehran of the Iranian Superleague on Dec. 12, 2023.
 
Lesley Varner II (2016-20) led SK Slavia Praha in scoring with 22 points while adding six rebounds, and three assists in an 80-70 loss to USK Praha in the Czech Republic NBL. Varner is averaging 20.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 2.0 steals through 20 games.
 
Luis Valera (2008-10) led Guadalajara in scoring with 17 points while adding nine rebounds, two assists, and one block in a 69-63 win over Italtel Alcobendas in Group B-A of the Spanish EBA. Valera is averaging 17.6 points and 6.7 rebounds through 14 games. Guadalajara is in second place in Group B-A with an 11-3 record.
 
Shaquille Hines (2012-16) posted his eighth double-double of the year with 16 points and 12 rebounds in Bambitious Nara's 74-59 loss against Kumamoto in the Japanese B2 League. Hines is averaging 16.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists through 30 games.
 
Janari Joesaar (2014-15) recorded his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds in Anwil Wloclawek's 88-71 win over Sokol in the Polish OBL. Joesaar is averaging 7.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists through 17 games. Anwil Wloclawek sits in first place with a 15-2 record.
 
Javon Levi (2017-21) scored four points with seven rebounds, four assists, and five steals in KK Dubrovnik's 88-77 victory over GKK Sibenka Sibenik in the Croatian Premijer Liga. Levi is averaging 11.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and a league-leading 3.6 steals through 14 games.
 
Paul Stoll (2006-08) won his second Mexican LNBP Championship with Fuerza Regia with a 4-1 series win over Astros de Jalisco. Stoll finished the season averaging 6.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in 32 games.
 
Jordan Jackson (2017-20) scored two points with one rebound in the Maine Celtics' 102-100 loss to the Long Island Nets in the NBA G-League. Jackson is averaging 3.4 points in seven games.
 
Other former UTRGV players who are playing professional basketball:
Terry Winn III (2017-19) signed with Flexachem KCYMS Killorglin of the Irish Super League on Jan. 5.
Johnny Crnogorac (2017-19) played for Sydney City Comets in Australian NBL One during the 2023 season. Crnogorac averaged 11.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.6 blocks in 20 games played last season.
