RIO GRANDE VALLEY – There are at least 10 players who previously played for The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's basketball team that currently play or will play professional basketball in 2023-24. Here is an update on how some of them are doing, courtesy of Eurobasket:
 
Former UTRGV players that are currently playing professional basketball:
 
Lesley Varner II (2016-20) recorded his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while adding one assist and two steals in SK Slavia Praha's 80-70 loss to Basket BRNO in the Czech Republic NBL. Varner is averaging 20.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 2.0 steals through 21 games.
 
Perry Petty (2010-11) scored 17 points with three rebounds, six assists, and one steal in Mahram's 100-78 loss to Shahrdari Gorgan in the Iran Superleague. Petty is averaging 23.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 2.0 steals in nine games. Mahram is currently in third place with a 10-6 record.
 
Janari Joesaar (2014-15) scored nine points with four rebounds, one assist, and one steal in Anwil Wloclawek's 87-84 win over MKS Dabrowa Gornicza in the Polish OBL. Joesaar is averaging 7.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.0 assists through 18 games. Anwil Wloclawek sits in first place with a 16-2 record.
 
Shaquille Hines (2012-16) scored eight points while adding four rebounds and one assist in Bambitious Nara's 75-71 loss against Shizuoka in the Japanese B2 League. Hines is averaging 16.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists through 32 games.
 
Luis Valera (2008-10) scored five points while adding three rebounds, four assists, and one block in a 76-69 win over Distrito Olimpico Plenilunio Madrid in Group B-A of the Spanish EBA. Valera is averaging 16.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists through 15 games. Guadalajara is in second place in Group B-A with an 12-3 record.
 
Javon Levi (2017-21) scored four points with five rebounds, one assists, and two steals in KK Dubrovnik's 84-66 loss to KK Dinamo Zagreb in the Croatian Premijer Liga. Levi is averaging 10.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and a league-leading 3.5 steals through 15 games.
 
Other former UTRGV players who are playing professional basketball:
Terry Winn III (2017-19) signed with Flexachem KCYMS Killorglin of the Irish Super League on Jan. 5.
Jordan Jackson (2017-20) plays for the Boston Celtics' NBA G-League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.
Paul Stoll (2006-08) won his second Mexican LNBP Championship with Fuerza Regia with a 4-1 series win over Astros de Jalisco. Stoll finished the season averaging 6.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in 32 games.
Johnny Crnogorac (2017-19) played for Sydney City Comets in Australian NBL One during the 2023 season. Crnogorac averaged 11.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.6 blocks in 20 games played last season.
