RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's basketball team learned on Monday that senior guard Hasan Abdul Hakim is this week's Jersey Mike's Southland Conference (SLC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
 
Abdul Hakim helped the Vaqueros to the Greenbrier Tip-Off River Division Championship with wins over Charleston Southern and Tennessee Tech. 
 
Abdul Hakim was named the Greenbrier Tip-Off River Division MVP after averaging 19.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals while shooting 62.5% throughout the tournament. 
 
In Friday's win over Charleston Southern, Abdul Hakim scored 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting and recorded four steals. 
 
In the championship game on Saturday, Abdul Hakim scored a game-high 15 points with five rebounds and two assists in the win over Tennessee Tech. 
 
On the season, Abdul Hakim is averaging 14.6 points and 6.2 rebounds with 2.6 assists and 2.4 steals per game.
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action tonight when they visit Wisconsin, who is receiving votes in the national polls, at 7 p.m. at the Kohl Center. The game will air on the Big Ten Network and can be streamed on the Fox Sports app.
