RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday that sophomore
Symoria Adkins, of the women's track and field team, is the Killers Golf UTRGV Student-Athlete of the Week.
Adkins advanced to the quarterfinals of the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA West Preliminary in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Adkins set a program record in the opening round as she finished fourth in a fast Heat 3 with a time of 13.27 seconds and just missing an auto-qualifying spot. Adkins needed to finish in the top-24 to advance to the next round and finished in 19
th.
In the quarterfinals, Adkins went on to break her own program record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.15 seconds as she came in 13
th, one spot out of advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Adkins finished behind Texas Tech's Naomi Krebs, who ran a 13.13 to take 12
th.
