MONTERREY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team concluded the Monterrey Collegiate Classic in a tie for second place at Club Campestre on Saturday.
 
The Vaqueros completed their second day of 27 holes today, completing the final nine holes of the second round, ending with a two-under 286, and finished their day with an even 288 in the third round.
 
UTRGV ended with a three-round score of 854, trailing only VCU who scored 834, and tying with Richmond for second place. UTRGV finished ahead of Loyola Maryland, George Washington, Howard, North Dakota State, Seattle U, Northern Colorado, Utah State, George Mason, and Davidson.
 
On the final day, junior Rodolphe Cicala shot one-under over the final 27 holes to finish tied for sixth place while junior Esteban Gonzalez ended went even on the day to claim a tied for 10^th place finish.
 
Senior Arthit Kruaprayong climbed eleven spots on day three, shooting one-under on the final nine holes of the second round and carding a 71 on the final round, to finish tied for 19^th.
 
Freshmen Emilio Gil Leyva and Jorge Martin Sampedro finished tied for 30^th and 39^th, respectively. Leyva carded an even 72 in the second round and a 74 in the third while Sampedro finished with a 73 in the second and a 76 in the final round.
 
Freshman Brock Porter, who is playing as an individual, climbed nine spots, ending tied for 52^nd after carding a 74 in the second round and shooting an even 72 in the final round.
 
The Vaqueros are done with their fall tournaments but will be back in action Feb. 1, 2026 when they open the spring season with the Compadres Collegiate in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
