BOISE, Idaho – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros swimming & diving program finished the fall strong at the NW Collegiate Invite, hosted by Idaho, earning three individual top eight finishes and breaking three school records, Sunday at the Idaho Central Aquatics Center.
Freshman
Sarah Bull shined finals session, earning fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:03.52) and 200 butterfly (2:09.56), a UTRGV-high for any individual event at the NW Collegiate Invite. Bull's time in the 200 butterfly set a new school record for the event.
Sophomore
Annaleagh Stahl also competed well in the 200 backstroke, earning eighth with a time of 2:06.12. Meanwhile, freshmen
Sasapin Sarawas (2:11.51) and
Marina Johnson (2:17.43) finished 21
st and 24
th, respectively. Sophomore
Lauren Uribe (2:35.50) claimed 28
th to round out the event for the Vaqueros.
Freshman
Dia Henderson led the way for UTRGV in the 100 freestyle, earning 13
th after clocking in at 52.67.
In the 200 breaststroke, freshman
Jaydy Jay bested her time in the prelims to capture 13
th with a 2:24.87. Meanwhile freshman
Ava Light (2:35.58), Johnson (2:43.35), sophomore
Diara Aleman (2:45.20), and Uribe (3:05.94) finished 25
th, 27
th, 28
th, and 30
th, respectively.
Junior
Olivia Votava and Stahl competed well in the 200 butterfly, earning 16
th and 18
th place, respectively. Meanwhile, freshman
Ellinor Plant and junior
Chloe Siegrist claimed 23
rd and 24
th, respectively to wrap up the final session for the Vaqueros.
In the 1650 freestyle, Plant finished in 18:10.38 to claim 15
th. Meanwhile, Siegrist (18:48.56) and Votava (18:59.20) finished in 21
st and 22
nd, respectively, while junior
AJ Rogers placed 27
th after swimming 19:27.59 to round out the event for the Vaqueros.
To finish the preliminary round, the Vaqueros competed in the 400 freestyle relay where the team of Rudelius, Bull, Stahl, and Henderson broke the school record after clocking in at 3:26.02 to finish eighth. Meanwhile, the team of Votava, Lofgren, Sarawas, and Jay claimed 14
th after finishing in 3:41.88.
Looking Back at the Prelims
Stahl (2:03.56) and Bull (2:04.00) set the tone early for the Vaqueros as both earned spots in the 200 backstroke "A" final after finishing in 5
th and 7
th, respectively.
Henderson continued her record-breaking streak in the 100 freestyle, shattering the previous school record by more than a second, clocking in at 52.35 to earn ninth and clinch a spot in the "B" final.
In the 200 breaststroke, Jay finished a team-high 13
th place after swimming a 2:25.43 to earn a spot in the "B" final.
The Vaqueros shined in the 200 butterfly as Bull earned her second "A" final of the and broke the school record with a 2:10.73 to finish eighth. Meanwhile, Rudelius (2:13.04) and Votava (2:13.54) finished within 0.5 seconds of each other to earn 15
th and 17
th, respectively. Stahl (2:16.22) and freshman Plant (2:19.37) finished 21
st and 25
th, respectively, to earn a team-high five top 25 individual finishes in one event.
