WACO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's tennis team finished their fall season Sunday at the H-E-B Invitational, hosted by Baylor, at the Hurd Tennis Center.
The Vaqueros earned three singles wins in their fall finale including a gritty three-set victory from senior
Barbara Martinez in the west finals of the green draw. Martinez, after dropping the first set 6-2, bounced back in a big way winning a tight second set 6-4 before winning the back-and-forth deciding tiebreaker 10-8 to seal her win over Elizabeth Isyanov from Illinois (UI).
Sophomore
Luna Buijtenhuijs earned a solid straight-set victory over Denver's (UD) Natali Jaiani. The first set went the distance with Buijtenhuijs pulling away in the tiebreaker to win 7-6 (7-5) and carried that momentum into the second, winning 6-3, to secure the win. Meanwhile, junior
Hitakamya Narwal won the west finals of orange draw after her opponent pulled out due to injury.
