HOUSTON – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's swimming and diving program completed their first day of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Swimming & Diving Championships Wednesday at the CRWC Natatorium.
UTRGV's first conference championship meet started on the 3-meter springboard as freshman
Manou Meulebeek and junior
Delaney Murphy competed with their set of six dives.
Meulebeek finished in 14
th after the preliminary round with a score of 229.20, qualifying for the consolation round where she also finished 14
th.
The team of sophomores
AJ Rogers,
Olivia Votava,
Hailey Garcia-Rivas, and freshman
Sarah Garcia each hit season best marks in their respective splits as they finished in eighth.
In the 800 freestyle relay, the team of freshman
Annaleagh Stahl, freshman
Ida Rudelius, sophomore
Chloe Siegrist, and sophomore
Olivia Votava combined for a season and program best 8:00.10 in the event, shaving nearly eight seconds off the previous record. Stahl's leadoff split of 1:55.13 also set a program record in the 200 freestyle.
The Vaqueros will continue their run at the WAC Championships tomorrow at 10:30 a.m at the CRWC Natatorium. with the 1-meter springboard and a series of individual swims that will be broadcast on
WAC International. Live results will be available for diving events on
DiveMeets and swimming events on
MeetMobile.
The finals will begin at 6 p.m. and broadcast domestically on
ESPN+.
