PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team moved up three spots on the final day of the Vaqueros Intercollegiate to finish tied for 10^th place on Tuesday at Playa Paraiso Golf Club.
 
The Vaqueros improved by five strokes with a final round 299 to finish tied with Wichita State and ahead of Seton Hall, Lamar, California Baptist, and UT Arlington with a three-round score of 912. 
 
Sophomore McAllen Memorial alum Esteban Gonzalez posted a final round 76 to finish tied for 16^th with a three-round score of 221. Redshirt senior Taj Sutherland finished tied for 42^nd with a three-round score of 230 after posting a final round 75.
 
Junior Arthit Kruaprayong posted his best in the final round as he posted a one-under par 71 to finish tied for 46^th with a three-round score of 231. Sophomore Eddie Lai finished tied for 52^nd with a three-round score of 234 after improving by four strokes with a final round 75. 
 
Sophomore Emilio Gil Leyva and senior Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 54^th with a three-round score of 235. Gil Leyva improved by three strokes with a final round 77 and Duque carded his second round of 77. 
 
No. 16 SMU won the team title with a three-round score of 864 after posting a final round 291. ULM's Louis Anceaux held on to win the individual title with a three-round score of 210 after a final round 71. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action Feb. 17-18 at the Border Olympics in Laredo.
