LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Southland Conference (SLC) announced the women's basketball All-Conference teams and superlatives Saturday, and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) had
Charlotte O'Keefe and
Kade Hackerott selected for the All-Conference Second Team.
O'Keefe was also named to the All-Defensive Team. The junior forward from Overland Park, Kansas leads the SLC in a conference-high six stat categories, including all four rebounding categories, total blocks and double-doubles. O'Keefe is ranked in the top 100 nationally in seven stat categories: 2
nd in total rebounds (389), third in rebounds per game (12.5), sixth in offensive RPG (4.5), eighth in defensive RPG (8.1), 17
th in double-doubles (15), 71
st in total blocks (44) and 83
rdin blocks per game (1.42).
The Second Team and All-Defensive nods are the first all-conference awards for O'Keefe, who is amid one of the best seasons in program history. She is the only Southland player averaging a double-double this season, contributing 10.7 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game while playing 32.6 minutes per game. She has already claimed UTRGV program records for single-season rebounds and career rebounds and is sixth in single-season blocks. O'Keefe is 10
thon the all-time SLC single-season rebounding list.
O'Keefe is one of two players in the nation with two or more 20/20 games and one of two players with three or more games of 20+ rebounds, joined only by LSU's
Aneesah Morrow on both lists. Her career-high 24 rebounds are the third-most collected in a game by a Div. I player this season and ties the UTRGV single-game record and the SLC's fifth-most rebounds in a game. O'Keefe has tallied six games with 3+ blocks and has recorded at least one block in 23 of 31 games. She is third on the team with 24 steals and 68 assists.
Hackerott, a graduate student guard/forward from Wichita, Kansas, collected her first all-conference award with her Second Team honor. She leads the Vaqueros with 13.0 points per game and 34 steals and is second on the team with 6.6 rebounds per game and 87 assists. She has recorded four 20-point scoring games and has been UTRGV's leading scorer in 17 games.
Hackerott is second in the SLC in free throw makes (115) and free throw attempts (155), ranking 69
th and 60
th in the nation, respectively. She made 17 consecutive free throws earlier this season and went 13-for-14 from the line in a win over Eastern Michigan, tying the fifth-most made free throws in a game in program history and the eighth-most made in a game this season. With 115 made free throws this season and 235 in her UTRGV career, Hackerott is sixth and seventh in program history for single-season makes and career makes, respectively.
The #6 Vaqueros (16-15, 11-9 SLC) will play #7 Nicholls (16-13, 9-11 SLC) Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the first round of the SLC Championships at the Legacy Center in Lake Charles.
