RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vice President and Director of Athletics
Chasse Conque announced on Thursday that head women's golf coach
Bryan Novoa will not return for the 2025-26 season.
"We have carefully reviewed our women's golf program and determined it is in the best interest of the program to make a change in leadership," Conque said. "We thank Coach Novoa for his dedication to not only his program, but the department, the university, and the community. We are grateful for Coach Novoa's many contributions over the past eight years, including guiding his team to our community engagement team of the year and academic team of the year awards in 2022-23. We wish him well personally and professionally moving forward."
"While I've been informed that my contract won't be renewed, I'm taking this as a moment of redirection," Novoa said "I'm grateful for the last eight years and now feel more ready than ever to return to my roots and compete in the game I love – golf. It's time to chase that competitive fire again."
As UTRGV moves forward, the women's golf program is well positioned for future success. Last year, the Vaqueros moved into a new $3 million facility, the Vaqueros Golf Center, at Champion Lakes Golf Course in McAllen.
The Vaqueros Golf Center includes more than 4,200 square feet of space for locker rooms for the golf programs, two hitting bays, a study lounge, nutrition station and viewing area, and coaches' offices.
The UTRGV Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will have no further comment until the next coach is hired.
