RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the 2024-25 Academic All-District teams for women's and men's tennis Tuesday, and seven student-athletes from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's (UTRGV) tennis programs were recognized.
To be eligible, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore and have a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better. They also must have been in the lineup for 70% of their team's days of competition.
Four women's tennis student-athletes made the CSC Academic All-District Team: senior
Kristal Dule, sophomore
Madeleine Joffe, sophomore
Rhea Makesar and sophomore
Hitakamya Narwal.
Dule will be graduating this spring and led the Vaqueros with a 9-7 singles record in her senior season. The economics major from Pove del Grappa, Italy captured 17 wins this spring and went 6-3 in Southland Conference (SLC) singles action. This is her second All-District Team nod. At the annual V Awards, she received the Anheuser Busch/Ann LaMantia Award, which goes to the female senior student-athlete with the highest GPA.
Makesar was named to the All-Conference Doubles Second Team following a UTRGV debut season that saw her notch an impressive 13-3 doubles record in the spring, including a 6-3 mark in conference play with a 6-0 record in the second flight. Playing with freshman
Mariia Bakhtina, Makesar closed the season on a six-match winning streak in doubles. The biomedical science major from Perth, Australia also went 8-9 in singles and worked her way into the No. 1 singles spot for the Vaqueros.
Joffe is from Paris and is pursuing a degree in multidisciplinary studies. Narwal is a business analytics student from Haryana, India. The two spent their first spring at UTRGV playing doubles together and notched a solid 7-5 record. Joffe also went 8-9 in singles while Narwal was 7-6 as they primarily held down the fourth and fifth singles flights, respectively.

Santiago Serrano represent the UTRGV men's tennis team on the CSC Academic All-District Team.
This is the second Academic All-District Team nod for Whitehead and adds to his long list of accolades from a big spring. Whitehead was named the SLC Men's Tennis Player of the Year and made the All-Conference Singles First Team, and was named the UTRGV Male Student-Athlete of the Year and Comeback Player of the Year at the annual V Awards. He went 7-12 this spring with a 4-1 record in the No. 1 flight during conference play and added seven wins in doubles. The Launceston, Tasmania, Australia product will be graduating with a management degree.
Roberts, a management major from New Plymouth, New Zealand, went 9-9 in singles, matching the team's most singles wins. He was 3-1 in conference play in the fifth flight. Serrano collected 15 wins this spring, going 8-13 in singles and 7-12 in doubles. Serrano is from Santiago, Chile and is pursuing a degree in finance.
