RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday the 2025 men's and women's cross country schedules.
The Vaqueros open the season Sept. 12 at the UIW Invitational. The men's team will run a 4-mile race at 8 a.m. and the women will run a 5K at 8:40 a.m. at the Windcrest Golf Course in San Antonio. Next, UTRGV heads to Texas A&M for the Arturo Barrios Invitational at Watts Cross Country Course on Oct. 17.
The Southland Conference (SLC) Championships are set for Oct. 31 in Natchitoches, Louisiana hosted by Northwestern State. The women will run a 6K race and the men will complete an 8K race.
The road to the NCAA Cross Country Championships begins Nov. 14 with nine regional meets held across the country. UTRGV will compete at the South Central Regional at Agri Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The top two teams from each regional will automatically qualify for the national championship meet, along with 13 at-large teams and 38 selected individuals not on an auto-qualifying or at-large team. The NCAA Championships are scheduled for Nov. 22 at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri.
"Every season is a battle in this conference, so we want to spend more time training and preparing while using familiar meets to make a push for great championship finishes," head track & field/cross country coach
Shareese Hicks said. "Our teams have been working very hard and pushing themselves. This schedule complements their training while putting our student-athletes in race scenarios that will give them confidence come championship season. We have some key returners that will use their veteran guidance to inspire the team while our talented newcomers help to enhance our Southland ranking."
