Costantini Earns SLC Setter of the Week; Snead Tabs Offensive Honorable Mention

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Southland Conference (SLC) announced the weekly volleyball awards Monday and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) had junior setter Isabella Costantini and junior middle blocker Aaliyah Snead get recognized.

Costantini was named the SLC Setter of the Week, earning her first award this season and the sixth weekly award of her career. Snead tabbed the honorable mention SLC Offensive Player of the Week nod.

Costantini did a little bit of everything to help UTRGV (5-6) to a 2-1 week at James Madison's Erie Insurance Invitational. She averaged 10.7 assists per set and facilitated the offense to a strong .302 hitting percentage through three matches. Costantini totaled 107 assists, 17 digs, 11 kills, six blocks and three aces in 10 sets.

The setter had 39 assists, six digs, two blocks, two kills and two aces in a 3-1 loss to JMU on Friday. She tabbed 37 assists, six digs, five kills, two blocks and one ace in a sweep of William & Mary on Saturday. Costantini capped her weekend with 31 assists, five digs, four kills and two blocks in Sunday's sweep over Delaware State. She mixed her hitters well and put them in good positions, leading to the Vaqueros hitting over .300 as a team in their two wins – their best efficiencies this season.

Snead was named to the Erie Insurance Invitational All-Tournament Team after a big weekend at JMU. She averaged 2.8 kills per set with an impressive .451 hitting percentage during the tournament, committing just five errors on 51 attempts. She tallied double-digit kills in consecutive matches and hit .500 or better in two of three contests, recording 10 kills against JMU, 11 kills on .667 hitting against William & Mary, and seven kills on .500 hitting against Delaware State. Snead totaled seven blocks and had five in Sunday's win over DSU.

The Vaqueros open Southland Conference play Wednesday at 12 p.m. in a School Day match against Lamar at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
