RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's soccer team learned on Monday that Graduate students
Abbie Bailey and
Savannah Frisby, senior
Libbie Mayfield, junior
Linnea Eld, and sophomore
Lisa Elowsson have been named to the Southland Conference (SLC) All-Academic Team.
To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, volleyball student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better with at least one semester completed at the nominating institution and must have participated in at least 50% of the team's matches. To be eligible for Student-Athlete of the Year, the minimum GPA is 3.50 along with the other requirements.
Bailey played and started in 17 matches this season and played the full 90 minutes in 16 of those matches. Bailey was named SLC Defensive Player of the Week twice this past season and helped anchor UTRGV's backline that recorded five shutouts.
Frisby played in 16 matches while making 14 starts for the Vaqueros. Frisby finished with a team leading six goals and recorded one assist for a team leading 13 points on the season.
Mayfield played in all 18 matches while making 13 starts this season. Mayfield played a full 90 minutes eight times and helped anchor UTRGV's defense that recorded five shutouts on the season.
Eld played and started in all 18 matches this season while scoring two goals and recorded four assists for eight points.
Ellowsson played in all 18 matches while making 16 starts for the Vaqueros. Elowsson finished second on the team with five goals and added two assists for 12 points, which also ranked second on the team.
