MANHATTAN, Kan. – Senior
Nayla Harris picked up her second consecutive victory in the women's 60-meter dash Saturday as she represented The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) indoor track & field program at Kansas State's DeLoss Dodds Invitational at Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track in Manhattan, Kan.
Harris cruised to the final with a prelim time of 7.26, winning her heat and advancing to the next round as the No. 1 qualifier. She tied the third-fastest time in program history with her preliminary race.
In the final, Harris ran 7.27, tying the fifth-fastest time in program history, to win the event by .04 seconds. She was the only mid-major runner in the final and handily defeated opponents from Power 4 institutions.
Harris took third in the women's 200-meter dash on Friday, running 24.85. She finished behind competitors from Baylor and Oklahoma while defeating runners from both P4 schools and others, including Iowa State and Kansas.
Harris's season, personal, Southland Conference and program best time of 7.18 is tied for fourth in the nation and has her in contention to reach the NCAA Indoor Championships.
UTRGV's next meet is the Charlie Thomas Invitational hosted at Texas A&M Feb. 6-7.
