LAREDO – Coming off a win to open the spring, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is back to competition when they tee it up at the Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston starting on Monday at Laredo Country Club.
The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes on Monday with the final 18 holes being played on Tuesday. Play will begin each day at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Laredo Country Club plays 7,257 yards and is a par 72.
The Competition
There will be a 13-team field that will feature UTRGV, Houston, Houston Christian, Illinois State, Lamar, Louisiana, New Mexico State, North Texas, Sam Houston, Tarleton, Troy, Wichita State, and Wright State.
Starting Lineup
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros opened the spring season with a win at the Compadres Collegiate. UTRGV finished with a three-round score of 880 after posting rounds of 299, 291, and 290. It was UTRGV's first win since winning The Big Texan in the spring of 2024.
Sophomore
Gabriel Dulon Villoslada led the way as he finished in fifth place with a three-round score of 219 with rounds of 72, 77, and 70. Freshman
Jorge Martin Sampedro finished tied for seventh with a three-round score of 221 after carding rounds of 76, 74, and 71.
Junior
Rodolphe Cicala finished tied for 10
th with a three-round score of 222 with rounds of 77, 70, and 75. Freshman
Brock Porter tied for 16
th with a three-round score of 225 after posting rounds of 79, 70, and 76.
Junior
Esteban Gonzalez finished tied for 19
th with a three-round score of 227 with rounds of 74, 79, and 74.
Eddie Lai, who was playing as an individual, finished tied for 25
th with a three-round score of 230 with rounds of 78, 77, and 75.
Last Time at Border Olympics
UTRGV finished in 13
th in last year's Border Olympics after posting a three-round score of 897. UTRGV turned in rounds of 296, 297, and 304.
Esteban Gonzalez finished tied for 27
th with a three-round score of 220 after posting rounds of 70, 75, and 75.
Arthit Kruaprayong finished tied for 53
rd with a three-round score of 225 after posting rounds of 74, 72, and 79. Luis Limón finished tied for 66
th with a three-round score of 229 with rounds of 76, 76, and 77.
Taj Sutherland finished tied for 69
th with a three-round score of 230 with rounds of 76, 82, and 73.
Eddie Lai finished tied for 78
th with a three-round score of 235 with rounds of 80, 74, and 82.
Louisiana won last year's event with a three-round score of 855 with rounds of 286, 286, and 283. New Mexico State's Ethan Klose won the individual title with a three-round score of 208.
