LAREDO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men's golf team is tied for eighth place after the first day of the Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston, on Monday at Laredo Country Club following a 16-shot improvement from the first round. 
 
The Vaqueros sat in 12^th after the first the first round following a first round 297 but turned in a second round three-under 281 to climb four spots in the standings with a two-round total of 578.
 
Sophomore Gabriel Dulon Villoslada paced the team with a two-round total of 143. Villoslada opened with a first round 75 before carding a second round four-under 68 as he sits tied for 18^th. Freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro is tied for 21^st with a two-round total of 144 with a first round 74 and a second round two-under par 70. 
 
Junior Rodolphe Cicala is tied for 34^th with a two-round total of 146 after posting a first round 77 and then improving with a second round three-under 69. Junior Esteban Gonzalez is tied for 47^th with a two-round total of 148 after back-to-back rounds of 74 while freshman Brock Porter is also tied for 47^th with a two-round total of 148 after also posting back-to-back rounds of 74. 
 
Junior Arthit Kruaprayong, who is playing as an individual, is tied for fifth with a two-round total of 139 after posting rounds of two-under 70 and three-under 69. Kruaprayong is just three shots off the lead held by Wichita State's Jose Ramirez, who posted a two-round total of 136. Senior Luis Limón is tied for 47^th with a two-round total of 148 after rounds of 72 and 76. 
 
Host Houston leads after the first day with a two-round total of 567 with rounds of 284 and 283. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back on the course for the final round on Tuesday with play starting at 8:15 a.m. with a shotgun start.
