CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's golf team fell one spot to finish in second place at the Islanders Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday at Corpus Christi Country Club. 
 
The Vaqueros, who entered the final round with the tournament lead, posted a final round 317 to finish in second with a three-round score of 906. UTRGV finished four shots behind Houston Christian for first place but finished ahead of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to gain three points in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union, standings. 
 
UTRGV now leads in the standings 19-18 with the next event coming at the Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships from Feb. 25-26.
 
Sophomore Pitchayapa Pungpho finished tied for fifth place with a three-round score of 226 after a final round 81. Sophomore Zoe Hobbs posted a final round 78 as she finished tied for seventh with a three-round score of 227. Sophomore Miriam Barcalova also finished tied for seventh with a three-round score of 227 after a final round 77. 
 
Juniors Natalia Rodriguez and Camila Herrera, who is competing as an individual, tied for 14^th with three-round scores of 231. Rodriguez carded a final round 82 while Herrera turned in a final round 80. Sophomore Kieli Saenz finished tied for 18^th with a three-round score of 232 after a final round 81 and senior Cristina Galban finished tied for 24^th with a three-round score of 236 with a final round 82. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Feb. 27 when they compete in the South Texas Match Play against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
