RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women's basketball team is hosting the East Texas A&M Lions at 2 p.m. Saturday for a Southland Conference (SLC) game at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
The game between the Vaqueros (17-12, 14-6 SLC) and Lions (13-14, 9-11 SLC) will be part of Senior Day for forward
Charlotte O'Keefe, the lone graduate on the squad. O'Keefe will go down as one of the best players in program history. She owns program records for career rebounds, single-season rebounds, single-game rebounds and career blocks, is top 10 in program history in career points, career field goals made, attempted and percentage, career assists, career free throws made, and games played. O'Keefe is the only player in program history to reach 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds and is fourth nationally among active rebound/game leaders and seventh among all active Div. I players with 1,130 career rebounds. She is not only elite in UTRGV's history, but in the entire conference: she is a top-10 career rebounder and double-double getter in the SLC and owns one of just nine 400+ rebound seasons in conference history.
A win Saturday will secure a top-4 seed and a first-round bye for UTRGV in the upcoming SLC Basketball Championships.
