Lopez Earns National Pitcher of the Week Honors

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The College Baseball Foundation announced on Tuesday that graduate student pitcher Sergio Lopez of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros baseball team is the National Pitcher of the Week.

In Friday's 10-0, 8-inning win over New Orleans, Lopez pitched 7.2 scoreless innings, striking out a career-high 13 while scattering three singles and a walk. Lopez retired nine of the last 10 batters he faced, striking out six. The 13 strikeouts are the most by a UTRGV pitcher since Feb. 24, 2023, when Angelo Cabral struck out 15 vs. Central Michigan.
