BRYAN – Freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro is just three shots off the lead after a first round three-under par 69 to lead The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) at the NCAA Bryan Regional on Monday at Traditions Club.
 
Additionally, UTRGV is tied for 10^th with Cincinnati after posting a first round 295. UTRGV is ahead of Miami (OH), No. 21 New Mexico, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
 
Sampedro is tied for seventh place after a clean scorecard in the first round as he recorded three birdies and 15 pars. He turned in a front nine one-under 35 before posting a two-under 34 on the back nine. Sampedro trails Texas A&M's Wheaton Ennis, who holds the first round lead with a six-under 66. 
 
Junior Esteban Gonzalez posted an even par 72 and is tied for 24^th after the first round. Gonzalez recorded two birdies, 14 pars, and two bogeys as he carded a 36 on the front and back nine. 
 
Sophomore Gabriel Dulon Villoslada is tied for 48^th with a first round 75. Villoslada posted a front nine 37 and a back nine 38. Junior Rodolphe Cicala is tied for 67^th with a first round 79 and freshman Brock Porter is in 73^rd with a first round 84. 
 
Host Texas A&M is in the lead after the first round with a first round 276 while North Carolina is in second with a 278 and TCU rounds out the top three with a 280. 
 
The Vaqueros will be back on the course on Tuesday with their first group teeing off at 8:25 a.m. Teams will try and play two rounds on Tuesday with play being continuous as the forecast is calling for heavy rains on Wednesday.
