Luis Mendoza joined UTRGV football as the equipment coordinator on Feb. 5, 2024 after spending the previous seven seasons working with the Texas State football program.
Mendoza was the assistant equipment manager at Texas State from 2020-23, a position which included monitoring athletic equipment during practices to ensure it was used correctly and safely, instructing and mentoring student managers, managing the set up and breakdown of all special teams and defensive drills, and overseeing the building of helmets and application of decals.
Mendoza initially started working with the Texas State football team as a student manager in 2017, assisting with field set up and clean up, loading, unloading, and taking inventory of the equipment truck for road trips, setting up the coach comm system, coordinating apparel between coaches and players, and distributing equipment and apparel.
Originally from Mission, Texas, Mendoza graduated from Veterans Memorial High School in 2015 before going on to earn a Bachelor of General Studies with concentrations in business administration, coaching, and economics from Texas State in 2020.
