EDINBURG - Texas-Pan American finishes its soccer schedule with two home games this week, facing Centenary College at 1 p.m. Wednesday and South Texas Community College at noon Saturday.
The site is UTPA's on-campus Soccer Stadium.
Centenary's Gentlemen will be trying to repeat their 4-0 victory over the Broncs in Shreveporton Sept. 21. However, the Louisiana team will be facing rejuvenated Broncs, who have averaged 3.0 goals over their past five games.
The Gentlemen (5-9) have lost seven of their eight games since beating UTPA. The Broncs stand 10-1-1 but are unbeaten at home. Centenary is 2-6 on the road.
"They were pretty tough at home," said Dr. Miguel Paredes, UTPA coach, about Centenary. "I remember that when we played them we were not very healthy and we didn't have
Reynaldo Cisneros. Hopefully this time I feel we're much better, health-wise."
Dr. Paredes referred to Cisneros in particular because the speedy forward from Brownsville Hanna, a Bronc senior, missed most of the season with a badly bruised foot. Cisneros scored four goals in the final 11 minutes last Friday when the Broncs blasted Northwood University, 8-1.
Jaime Pruneda, a sophmore midfielder from San Antonio, probably will miss the final two games with a burned leg from a biking accident, the coach said.
"When we faced Centenary the first time it wa in the middle of a very long and tough schedule," Dr. Paredes added. "Lately we have had a more relaxed schedule so we should expect to be in much better shape."
The Broncs have canceled two games scheduled in Florida Nov. 1-2 so their year ends at noon Saturday against a newe rival, STCC.
