Draws

CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men's tennis team is set to open its fall season at the Contender CrossFit Islander Open starting on Friday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. 
 
The tournament will feature five singles draws and three doubles draws.
 
Play starts at 9 a.m. each day with play running through Sunday.
 
The Competition
Along with UTRGV, other teams competing at the Islander Open include: host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Laredo Community College, and UTSA.
 
Last Year at Islander Open
Zane Kohrs won the Draw C Singles Championship to close out last year's Islander Open. Kohrs defeated  Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Jonathan Christie 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
 
Kohrs also added a win in doubles after teaming with Michael Loyd to defeat Christie and Chad Nguyen for third place in Doubles Draw B.
 
George Hutchings and Yehontan Kaufman finished in second place in Doubles Draw A while Kaufman finished in second place in Singles Draw B.
 
Making Their Debuts
UTRGV will have three making their team debuts this weekend at the Islander Open in Alberto Mello, Carlo Izurieta, and Jason Loyd.
 
Mello, who played at Laredo Community College over the last two seasons, will be making his team debut on Friday. Mello's former team will also be competing in the open.
 
Izurieta, who played at Seward Community College over the last two seasons, will make his debut in the singles A Draw.
 
Loyd, is the younger brother of UTRGV's Michael Loyd, will be making his collegiate debut in the singles E Draw.
