SAN ANTONIO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track & field teams broke program records in the women's discus and men's 4x100-meter relay during day three of the UTSA Invitational on Saturday at the Park West Athletics Complex.
UTRGV completes the event having broken five program records, including the women's 100-meter hurdles on Thursday and the heptathlon and decathlon on Friday.
Graduate student
Desira Buerge broke the discus record with a second-place throw of 53.57 meters, besting the previous mark of 53.04 meters set by Hall of Famer
Deliliah Johnson in 1992.

Yashawn Hamilton, graduate student Juarez Lincoln alum
Yariel Matute, junior
Mariano Hernandez, and freshman
Jermarrion Stewart finished with a second-place time of 40.62, besting the previous record of 41.12 set in 2018.
Junior
Harry Barthelemy narrowly missed breaking the program record in the triple jump, winning the event with a mark of 15.08 meters, the second-best in program history and 0.01 meters off the record.

Mystique Brown, and freshman Rio Grande City alum
Daniella Muniz also set the second-best time in program history, finishing second in 47.09, 0.43 seconds off the record.
The Vaqueros had one other winner at the event, as sophomore
Tamara Woodley won the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.30, the ninth-best in program history.
Woodley was also part of a 4x400-meter relay team, along with junior Port Isabel alum
Natalie Garza, sophomore
Diamond Lilly, and freshman
Josefine Eriksen recorded the fifth-best time in program history, coming in fourth at 3:47.73.
UTRGV is back in action Thursday through Saturday at the Victor Lopez Classic, hosted by Rice.
