SAN ANTONIO – Graduate student Aviana Goode now holds the top five spots in program history in the 100-meter hurdles after winning the event for the second time this season to lead The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track & field teams during day one of the Roadrunner Invitational on Thursday at Park West Athletics Complex.
 
Goode was competing in the 100-meter hurdles as part of the heptathlon, winning with a time of 14.08, the fourth-fastest in program history. Entering the season, the program record was 14.22, accomplished by Sylvia Alboniga in 2012. Goode has now recorded times of 13.96, 14.00, 14.02, 14.08 and 14.17.
 
Goode missed entering the record book in the high jump by one centimeter, tying for second with a jump of 1.63 meters.
 
Overall, through four events, Goode is tied for fourth in the heptathlon with 2,899 points.
 
On the men's side, freshman Mission Veterans Memorial alum Alex Galvan leads UTRGV in the decathlon, ranking eighth through five events with 3,127 points. His best event was the shot put, in which he finished fourth with a mark of 12.42 meters.
 
Junior Harlingen alum Roel Renteria also had a fourth-place finish, finishing the 400-meter dash in 51.22.
 
Combined events continue Friday at 10 a.m., followed by field events, starting with the hammer and shot put, at 2 p.m., and track events, starting with the 3,000-meter steeplechase, at 8.
